Amidst a wave of backlash following her candid remarks about husband Ranbir Kapoor on lipstick preferences, Alia Bhatt took to Koffee With Karan 8 couch to address the controversy. Amidst the ongoing discussions, she defended Ranbir’s character, asserting that he’s the opposite of the labels being circulated.

Addressing the turmoil surrounding her statements, Alia explained, “I have a very candid way of speaking…things just get picked out of context which happened recently. My team told me ‘ye kuch out of hand jaara hai’. There were serious articles written about how he was a toxic man.” Expressing her concern, she added, “The only reason I feel bad is because he is genuinely the opposite, you cannot say anything about it.”

Further delving into the issue, Alia highlighted Ranbir’s perspective on public opinions. “Ranbir says this, ‘Alia the audience owns you, they can say whatever the hell they want to say about you, as long as your movies are doing well please don’t complain sitting in your apartment in Bandra.'”

Regarding the now-controversial anecdote about wiping off lipstick at Ranbir’s request, she clarified, “One thing my husband says when we used to go out at night, he used to say ‘Wipe that [lipstick] off. Wipe that off.’ Because he loves the natural colour of my lips.”

The controversy sparked intense reactions online, with users criticizing Ranbir’s stance, prompting comments like, “The more I listen about Ranbir Kapoor the more I feel scared for her. If your boyfriend/husband is telling you to wipe your lipstick that the biggest sign for you to run!”

Meanwhile, on the work front, Alia is engrossed in Jigra, a project she stars in and is producing in collaboration with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Set for release on September 27, 2024, the film pairs her with Ranveer Singh after Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.

Conversely, Ranbir is gearing up for Animal, featuring Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor, scheduled for a December 1 release. He’s also set to star in the epic drama Ramayana, shaping an exciting lineup ahead in his career.
