Pakistan cricket team vice-captain Shadab Khan blamed his non-performance behind the team’s failure after they were knocked out of the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023.

The 25-year-old cricketer said the team including the coaching staff tries to win every tournament. Everyone, he added, is disappointed with the performance during the World Cup, but the lesson in cricket is to always improve.

“I am also disappointed with myself, I didn’t live up to expectations. I should have performed. I think my non-performance brought the team here. If I had performed as a bowler, the result could have been different,” the Vica Captain said, speaking with Geo News.

Shadab reiterated it is very important for him to perform, sharing that he will return to Pakistan and analyse the mistakes he has made in the mega cricket event.

“We made a lot of mistakes and there were weaknesses, which is why we got eliminated. We failed in all three areas, but bowlers particularly didn’t perform. You have to play according to cricket. In batting, too, we have to play according to modern-day cricket,” he said.

Shadab added that a captain is not solely responsible for winning or losing, everyone has a role to play but our culture is such that everything is blamed on the captain.

“We did not play well as a team. We are all responsible,” he said.

After their immensely unsatisfactory performance in the ongoing World Cup in India, the Pakistan squad will fly out of India in two groups as the Green Shirts’ ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup journey came to an end on Saturday.

In their last group match, England defeated Pakistan by an impressive 93 runs at Kolkata’s Edens Gardens, with Green Shirts crashing out of the mega tournament.

The first batch of 11 members of the team will depart from Kolkata at 8:55am tomorrow (Sunday) via Emirates flight EK571. The remaining members will fly from Kolkata at 08:20 pm on the same day via Emirates flight EK573. After landing in Dubai, the players and squad members will leave for their respective cities.
